S-OIL Corporation (CEO Othman Al-Ghamdi) held a charity event “Sharing Tteokguk (rice cake soup) with S-OIL” at Kwangya Church, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul on Feb. 13 ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. On occasion of every Lunar New Year’s day, S-OIL has held the charity event sharing Tteokguk for twelve years.

At the church’s free meal center for the homeless, S-OIL CEO Othman Al-Ghamdi and some 100 S-OIL officers and employees and retired officers made tteokguk themselves and offered it to people, including old people living alone in single-room occupancy housing, disabled people, and homeless people around the area. In addition, they delivered a New Year gift package, which contained rice cake, beef, tangerines and ramens, etc., to 500 households living in single-room occupancy housing near Yeongdeungpo Station.

“the low-income people living in shantytown which could not keep out the cold weather due to deteriorated housing environments went through severe cold winter this year” said CEO Al-Ghamdi who delivered a New Year gift package to the elderly living alone. “I hope that neighbors could spend a happy New Year’s Day through S-OIL officers’ and employees’ warm love who participated in the volunteer for more than ten years.” He added.

For twelve years since 2007, S-OIL officers and employees have made and offered tteokguk to the homeless and people living in single-room occupancy housing. The refiner has provided diverse volunteer services for the underprivileged in communities. It has provided diesel and coal briquettes for underprivileged and has supported people in need including low-income neighbors, the disabled and multicultural families.
