S-OIL offers 300 million won in scholarship to children of fallen firefighters

● S-OIL offers a scholarship of 3 million won each to 102 children of firefighters who died during firefighting and emergency rescue operations.
● Since 2006, S-OIL has provided support for firefighter families under the “Hero Firefighters Support Program.”

S-OIL Corporation (CEO: Nasser Al-Mahasher) held a “ceremony to donate scholarships for children of fallen firefighters” at its head office in Mapo-gu, Seoul on Aug. 28. At the ceremony, S-OIL contributed 3 million won each to 102 children of fallen firefighters, ranging from elementary school to university students, and wished them to concentrate on their studies in more stable conditions.

In order to make its support more effective, S-OIL sponsors the children until they finish school, and places no limitation on the number of children who receive its scholarship. Among this year’s scholarship recipients, there were as many as 30 firefighter families with two or more children.

“We hope that our donation and interest will be a little encouragement and help to children of fallen firefighters in overcoming their sorrow, concentrating on their studies and thus growing into leaders of future society,” S-OIL CEO Al-Mahasher said at the ceremony. “We’ll continue to help the families of fallen firefighters who protected people at the risk of their own lives everywhere in our society.”

Since the launch of the Hero Firefighters Support Program in 2006, S-OIL has annually offered scholarships to 100 children of fallen firefighters as a way to support firefighters who willingly sacrifice themselves to protect people’s lives and property even in dangerous working conditions. Through its “Hero Firefighters Support Campaign, the refiner also awards prizes to exemplary firefighters, offers consolation money to injured firefighters and families of fallen firefighters, and carries out other diverse activities each year to help stabilize firefighter families’ living conditions and boost the morale of firefighters.
