S-OIL provides customized learning aids for disabled youths

● S-OIL provides customized learning aids, such as character input-type voice player, for 88 disabled children.

On Sept. 4, S-OIL (CEO: Nasser Al-Mahasher) donated 100 million won worth of customized learning aids to the Gyeonggi-do Assistive Technology Research & Assistance Center(ATRAC) to support 88 disabled children in low income families.

For the disabled children with difficulty in their learning activities, S-OIL provided learning aids customized to their disability types, such as electric-powered height-adjustable desk, portable electronic reading magnifier, specialized joystick mouse, and character input-type voice player. The refiner selected the 88 children after receiving the recommendation of disabled children from assistive technology organizations nationwide and making its steering committee, which consisted of rehabilitation engineers, visit the recommended children and evaluate their disability level, etc.

S-OIL, together with the ATRAC, kicked off the “campaign to provide learning aids for disabled youths in low income families” in 2010 and has since provided customized learning aids for disabled children with few learning opportunities. Until this year, the fourth year of the campaign, S-OIL has helped a total of 250 disabled youths to regain their self-esteem and raise their motivation for learning.

“I felt rewarded after hearing that disabled students we supported were overcoming their physical difficulties and enjoying their school life much better than before,” said S-OIL Senior Vice President Cho Young-il. “We will continue to increase our support to motivate more disabled youths to have the courage to learn.”
