On the occasion of Chuseok, S-OIL Corporation held a charity event “Sharing Songpyeon with S-OIL”at the Seongsan Social Welfare Center, Ewha Woman’s Univ. in Mapo-gu, Seoul on Sep. 12.

S-OIL CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher and about 100 other officers and employees made songpyeon, half moon-shaped rice cake, themselves and offered it to 800 low-income households in the Mapo area, including some 350 households living in rented apartments near the Center, recipients of National Basic Livelihood Security, single-parent families, disabled people, and elderly people living alone. In addition, they wrapped gift packages, which contained groceries and daily necessities, and gave them away to the 800 households. In the event, 7 members of ‘Mikoleaders’ which is CSR group of Miss Korea participants also joined volunteering for making songpyeon and delivering gift packages.

“We hope that our small help will be a warm gift to needy people who spend Chuseok lonely,” said S-OIL CEO Al-Mahasher who made songpyeon and delivered gift packages in person to elderly people living alone. “This charity event is particularly meaningful in that our officers and employees voluntarily participated in it. As a corporate citizen,” he added, “S-OIL will continue its efforts for mutual growth with local residents.”

S-OIL has held the charity event every Chuseok since 2007 and has endeavored to help local residents. As part of the effort, the refiner made about 200 million won worth of donation, including 1,980 sacks of rice and daily necessities, to the city of Ulsan---the location of its factory---on Sep. 4.
