* DJBIC (Dow Jones Best-in-class): Dow Jones’ premier sustainability index

S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al-Hejazi) was named to the 2025 Dow Jones Best-in-Class (DJBIC) World Index, marking its 16th consecutive year of inclusion since 2010. S-OIL is the first and only refiner not only in Korea but also in Asia to be selected for the DJBIC World Index for 16 consecutive years.

DJBIC, formerly known as the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), is a globally recognized sustainability benchmark published annually by S&P Global, one of the world’s leading financial information providers. Since 1999, S&P Global has assessed more than 2,500 companies worldwide based on a broad range of criteria, including corporate governance, supply chain management, environmental performance, and human capital development. The index is widely used as a key benchmark for evaluating corporate sustainability by taking into account both financial and ESG performance.

“Our selection to the DJBIC World index for the 16th consecutive year reflects recognition of our exemplary achievements in ESG risk management, stakeholder communication, and the enhancement of carbon management, built on global standards of management transparency and a well-established ESG framework,” an S-OIL official said. “We have established a long-term sustainability roadmap and are working to further strengthen our ESG capabilities by pursuing key initiatives, including climate change response, safety and environmental pollutant management, employee capability enhancement, and expanded social contribution activities.” He went on to say, “In addition, we are currently constructing the Shaheen Project, which is scheduled for completion this year. We expect the project to further strengthen our sustainability efforts as the new facilities will deliver superior energy efficiency compared with conventional facilities.”

Since 2021, S-OIL has operated an ESG Steering Committee comprising senior executives and management to review and deliberate on the company’s key ESG initiatives. In 2023, the company also established an ESG Committee under the Board of Directors to set strategic and policy directions related to ESG and review related performance, further expanding its ESG management efforts.
